Masterclass Performers Competition

     

The Masterclass Performers Competition will select six college flutists to perform in masterclasses for master teachers at the 2025 NFA Convention in Atlanta. This competition is open to any flutist who has been a full-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in an accredited college, university, or conservatory during the 2024-2025 academic year.

Competition Requirements*

  • All flutists must be current NFA members at the time the entry is submitted. If chosen to perform or present during the convention, flutists must also be current members at the time of the convention and register for the convention by July 1, 2025. To join or renew, go to nfaonline.org/signup
    • Applicants agree to be available to attend any day of the convention when they apply.  Winners will receive an assigned masterclass date and time upon selection and must register for at least that day of the convention.

  • $65 entry fee (paid during submission process)

All entrants must submit their entry, upload recordings/supplemental materials, and pay competition and membership fees by 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time, Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

Recorded Round Repertoire

Each piece should be uploaded as a separate file in the following order. All uploaded files must be audio recordings. No videos are allowed.

  • Adolphus Hailstork, Yuhwa for Solo Flute (Any edition)
  • Francis Poulenc, Sonata for Flute and Piano, mvt. 3 (Any edition)

All Recorded Round repertoire must be recorded WITH piano accompaniment.

Masterclass Repertoire

Each entrant must include three choices for masterclass repertoire, in order of preference, to perform should they be selected as a winner of the competition. Titles, movements, composer names, composer’s dates, and exact timings must be included with your competition entry. Participants will be bound by their original selections.

Those entering this competition may also may also be eligible to apply for the Frances Blaisdell Scholarship, which provides $1500 toward NFA convention expenses.
