Seven flutists performed as part of the Adult Flutist Masterclass, with pieces ranging from Mouquet’s “La Flute de Pan” and the Doppler Fantaisie Pastorale Hongroise to Caldini’s “Thelma’s Hot Machine” and Heggie’s “Soliloquy.” Angeleita Floyd worked with each flutist, talking about finding the skeleton of the music as well as how to use air flow through a movement or section.
She led the entire audience in doing a “finger breath” as a way to work on air flow, directing people to relax their jaws, drop the tongue, and place a finger near the mouth to release a breath with a “whoosh” sound.
