I never cease to be amazed at the scope and quality of activities created by NFA’s incredible group of volunteers and staff! After finishing my role as Secretary in 2018, I began serving as the NFA Committees Liaison. This newly created position has given me the opportunity to work closely with the Executive Committee, staff, and committee chairs, helping promote initiatives, as well as coordinating the NFA exhibit booth activities at the convention.
The 25 NFA committees are comprised of members from all over the world, each with a specific focus that carries out the NFA’s mission: “inspiring flutists, enriching lives.” Committee members serve a four-year term, offering conference proposal ideas annually as well as working toward year-round resources and initiatives to benefit NFA members of all ages and interests.
Committees often collaborate to broaden their reach within the organization. For example, the Career and Artistic Development and Diversity and Inclusion (formerly known as the Cultural Outreach) committees have been collaborating on an outreach mentoring program which serves college-level minority flutists in convention cities, facilitating career and ambassadorship opportunities and mentoring. Other co-committees have projects in the works, with exciting opportunities for NFA members!
If you’d like to get involved by serving on a committee, or you have suggestions regarding committee-related initiatives, such as ideas for the 50th Anniversary convention in 2022 to wanting a specific NFA booth exhibit activity in Dallas, I’d love to hear from you!
