2020 Convention Cancellation Announcement

Mar 20, 2020, 20:44 PM by Regina Cherene
We deeply regret to announce that the 2020 NFA convention in Dallas, Texas, has been canceled due to concerns about the safety of convention participants. Thank you to everyone who has been looking forward to this event and preparing for it over the last several months. This was a very difficult decision, and we are sorry for the disappointment and disruption that this causes.

The 2020 convention program will be presented in 2021 in Washington, D.C., with Jennifer Grim continuing in her role as Program Chair. All performers and presenters who accepted the invitation to present in Dallas are invited to present next year, and we will be in touch with you with details. We will also accept new proposals. Ali Ryerson, originally scheduled to be Program Chair in 2021, will be the Program Chair for the 2023 convention in Phoenix. The NFA is grateful to these program chairs for their extraordinary adaptability in these uncertain times and their enthusiasm for moving forward with this new plan. Plans for the 50th Anniversary Convention in 2022 in Chicago, with Aaron Goldman as Program Chair, are unchanged.

To those of you who have already registered for the Dallas convention, thank you! We understand that this is a difficult time for everyone, and a full refund is available upon request. You may also choose to apply your registration to the 2021 convention at the same rate or convert it to a donation. Since the NFA is a non-profit membership-based organization, we depend on convention income to offer year-round benefits to our members. Any contribution you make will go a long way in ensuring the impact we can make for our community and beyond. Everyone who has registered for the convention will soon receive an e-mail with further details about your options.

We are considering the best approach for each of the 2020 competitions, as we would like to honor the work that went into these entries as much as possible. Entrants will receive an email with more information soon.

We are especially grateful to the community of Texas flutists who joined together to help create an exciting and welcoming environment for this worldwide gathering. Thank you to our exhibitors and sponsors for their ongoing support and partnership.

The annual convention has always been an opportunity for flutists to join together in community and celebration. The most difficult part about this cancellation is that it comes at a time when we need these experiences more than ever. However, we remain committed to togetherness and look forward to the creative new ways we will undoubtedly find to maintain the unique bond that makes our membership so special. In the months ahead, we will share new opportunities for connection.

Thank you for being part of our beloved community. Stay safe, stay connected, and please watch for additional announcements.
