Samuel Baron

1996 Lifetime Achievement Award

 

Samuel Baron has enjoyed a multifaceted career in music as a flutist, conductor, teacher, and administrator. He is a past president of the National Flute Association and is music director and flutist of the Bach Aria Group. His long association with the New York Woodwind Quintet is legendary. As a teacher, he is professor of music at SUNY Stony Brook and has been on the faculty of the Juilliard School for many years. He frequently participates in summer music festivals as a performer, teacher, and coach. He has been associated with the Sarasota Music Festival, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Banff School of the Arts, and the Bach Aria Festival and Institute at Stony Brook. In addition to his may recordings with the New York Woodwind Quintet, he has recorded a wide range of solo flute, from Bach to Mozart to contemporary American composers.
