This coming January 7th, 2025, First Tuesdays Online with GPFS is grateful to feature Dr. Leonard Garrison, Professor Emeritus from the University of Idaho, who will be sharing knowledge of the legendary French classical flutist Gaston Crunelle. Dr. Garrison will discuss his inspiration and original research for the recently published book, Gaston Crunelle and Flute Playing in Twentieth Century France. For flutists, teachers and those interested in musical lineage and history, his book vividly revives the reputation of Crunelle, who taught an entire generation of leading flutists during his unprecedented service as professor of flute at the Paris Conservatory from 1941 until 1969 and as principal flutist of the Opéra-Comique and the Pasdeloup Orchestra. Examples of Crunelle's students include Jean-Pierre Rampal (who succeeded in Crunelle’s teaching position) and numerous others such as Maxence Larrieu, Pol Mule, Jean-Louis Beaumadier, Roger Cotte, Michel Debost, James Galway and many more! The presentation includes rare recordings of music by Boismortier, Chopin, Debussy, Mozart, and Roussel. No fee, no registration, simply use the Zoom link at www.gpfs.org/First-Tuesdays
