Members of the NFA receive access to a number of year-round benefits from partner organizations. The “Benefits Feature” series lets you hear directly from these organizations, as they talk about their product and how it can help our members.
NFA members receive a 30% discount on a new subscription to tonebase Flute, a premier online education platform for flutists.
Since launching in 2023, NFA Official Partner tonebase Flute has built a library of courses led by world-renowned flutists such as Jasmine Choi, Carol Wincenc, Marina Piccinini, and others. In this post, you'll see how tonebase helps you learn from highly-acclaimed flutists, while connecting with fellow learners in a robust flute community.
tonebase Flute’s summer 2023 launch was a first for the flute community. Finally, flutists could glean the wisdom of the world’s most accomplished flutists without needing the funds to attend elite universities and conservatories.
Ever since tonebase started with a classical guitar learning platform in 2017, its mission has always been to democratize high-level music education. The debut of tonebase Flute was a necessary next step towards achieving that goal.
Since tonebase Flute launched, it has featured a growing library of high-quality video courses from the biggest names in the flute world. These include tutorials from former Vienna Philharmonic principal flutist Jasmine Choi, Juilliard flute professor Carol Wincenc, acclaimed soloist and author Mark Sparks, and many other influential artists and educators.
Here are just a few of the courses offered:
Ibert - Flute Concerto, taught by Sharron Sparrow
Tone Color and Vibrato, taught by Mark Sparks
Bach - Partita in A Minor, BWV 1013, taught by Rachel Brown
Ravel - Daphnis et Chloé, taught by Marianne Gedigian
Warming Up, taught by Jasmine Choi
Poulenc - Flute Sonata, taught by Carol Wincenc
Piccolo Fundamentals, taught by Amal Gochenour
Debussy - Syrinx, taught by Carol Wincenc
Carl Reinecke - Ballade, taught by Tim Hagen
Vibrato, taught by Sarah Shin
And there are dozens more. With such a wide array of courses on technique, repertoire, and musicianship, flutists of all levels will find something helpful.
Every member gets a personalized learning experience. When first logging on, you'll be asked a few simple questions about your experience level and comfort with fundamental flute skills. At the end, tonebase will suggest tutorials that will get you to the next level in each area.
tonebase is not just about building your skills through self-paced video courses, as enriching as those are. It’s also about connecting with like-minded flutists and mentors who share your passion for playing the flute.
Inside tonebase LIVE, members can attend virtual, interactive workshops and masterclasses, led by Flute Content Lead Chelsea Tanner and various tonebase artists. And in the tonebase Flute Community, members can chat with each other in a closed forum, and participate in group activities to build targeted skills.
Now that tonebase Flute is here, there’s no better way to join a community of active flutists while learning from the greats.
tonebase Flute is the newest, best online resource for flutists who are ready to make progress in their playing.
Whether you want to learn from master flutists on your own, participate in a thriving flute community, or both - you'll get more out of tonebase than any other platform.
