Kyle Dzapo
STATEMENT
As a member of the NFA since my undergraduate days, I have come to know our organization from different vantage points: I’ve performed at four of our conventions and have served as chair of the research committee (1997-2001), assistant secretary/secretary (2001-03), and program chair (San Diego, 2005). This experience, as well as my work on the executive committee of my university’s senate, has given me useful insights about how to work with people to get things done. I’ve also gained valuable perspective through my participation in the most recent conventions of the German and British flute societies. Ten years ago, I was on the outside looking in. I retain some of that perspective and, because of it, I want to be sure to include you and your ideas. Our organization has made great strides in recent years, and I am confident that I can work effectively with the board, committees, and members to continue the vision of our founders and the fine work of our recent leaders.

Jonathan Keeble
STATEMENT
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to commune with flutists from around the world; however, it’s only been over the last year, during my work as Program Chair for the 2008 Convention in Kansas City, that the richness of the NFA’s diverse membership has become fully known to me. If elected, I consider it an honor to serve the organization’s constituency, while charting a path that readies the NFA for the future. In addition to continuing it’s excellent work on behalf of its current membership, I see the NFA as being a force of change in serving music programs in underprivileged areas. I also see the NFA as playing an active role in bringing the psychology of music performance to a new level of sophistication. Finally, in my year as program chair, I’ve been able to demonstrate my ability to work within the organization while staying on schedule and being frugal with my expenses. It’s my hope that these beliefs and traits exemplify the type of leadership the NFA needs for the upcoming years.

His solo, chamber and orchestral recordings appear on the Warner Brothers and Albany labels. In addition to performing, Keeble spends summers teaching at the Madeline Island Music Camp, the Burgos Chamber Music Festival, and the University of Illinois Summer Youth Music Flute Camp. Keeble holds degrees from Northwestern University and the Eastman School of Music. He and his wife Sue live in Mahomet, Illinois, where they spend the bulk of their free time building Lego spaceships with their sons Alexander and Bryson. |

Our organization must continue to thrive and remain relevant, yet flexible enough to meet the many and changing needs of our membership.students to seniors, soloists to ensemble members, the breadth of the NFA is phenomenal.NFA strives to support all who, like me, are passionate about the flute—orchestral players, soloists, amateurs, teachers, scholars, and a wide array of commercial members who represent all aspects of flute playing in every possible genre! Adrianne Greenbaum
STATEMENT
I have been a fan and supporter of the NFA since my first convention in D.C. over two decades ago. I went with a degree of trepidation, fearing that it was going to be filled with flutists literally cheering in the hallways, complete with pompoms. My fears were fully realized (minus the pompoms)—and I was hooked. Everyone, from the young child who had yet to blow a note to the very seasoned, was there. Many performances were over-the-top for me. I came away refreshed and invigorated. The NFA has continued to inspire with its welcoming arms towards new music and innovations, while paying equal attention to our history of our music and of our flutes. I particularly enjoy our forums that encourage young flutist or amateurs with masterclasses specifically aimed at their levels and interests. NFA offers ways to include the pre-professional and the professional who has less opportunity to perform. I will champion efforts to continue to offer these many opportunities to our wide community.

Paul Taub
STATEMENT
I am honored to be a candidate for the board of the NFA. I believe strongly in the mission of the organization and have been a long-time active volunteer, most recently as the chair of the New Music Advisory Committee, helping NFA expand its horizons with more regular special project commissions by both American and international composers. My areas of interest include chamber music, contemporary music, and especially, our commissioning program, which makes us an important global player in a much larger world of our living art form, and where the leadership of NFA can contribute to the future by being active in the present. I am proud that the broad spectrum of work we do at NFA—whether through the commissioning programs, the competitions, support we give for the flute industry, or the promotion of opportunities for flutists from students to professionals to amateurs—is simultaneously an appreciation of our past, our present, and our legacy. I look forward to a continued NFA activism!
