| ART FOR ART’S SAKE
Music by Bay Area Composer Wendy Loomis will be featured as part of Trinity’s Chamber Concert Series on Saturday, June 7th, at 8:00pm. Contemporary music will merge and collide with visuals in a simultaneous dance. The presentation will paint scenescapes of light and sound as the age-old question is addressed: what is art? Still and moving images from historical and contemporary painters, sculptors, and instillation artists will converse and counterpoint with Loomis’ compositions.
Trinity’s Series is dedicated to cultivating a diverse program of performances that expands and challenges the concept of what is considered chamber music. Recent winner of the ASCAPlus Award for composition, Wendy Loomis is currently working with several ensembles in the Bay Area including flute/piano duo Phoenix Rising and world rhythm ensemble COPUS. COPUS was created in the late 1990s when Loomis and poet/spoken word artist Royal Kent began combining their creative forces.
The program will include feature Monica Williams on flute, Patrick Mahon on electric bass, Greg MCRay on drums and Gael Alcock on cello. There will be an array of visual artists contributing to the program including painters Boris Koodrin and Stevenski Brewster, as well as many of the historical artists we have come to know and love. A special presentation of the documentary ‘Exposing Homelessness’ by Karrie Gawryn will further explore the lines that separate the ordinary from the extraordinary.
