| “Global Village” is a special concert celebrating the 10th anniversary of Flock of Flutes, East Bay’s Première flute choir! This concert will feature different regions of the world with both contemporary and historical composers.
The program will have a mass flute choir, a performance of Gary Shocker’s “Japanese Folk Tunes” duet by current Director Monica Williams and Founder Susan Sigge ,as well as works like‘Bolero’ by Ravel, ‘Native American Trilogy’ by Charles Wakefield Cadman, and Russian Melodies by Nishimura.
Also featured is newly commissioned work, “East West Suite,” by ASCAP-award-winning composer Wendy Loomis. The four movements, ‘Silences Between’, ‘Shaolin Temple’, ‘Meditation’, and ‘Misty Mountain,’ touch on the musical and philosophical overlap between Eastern and Western cultures. The work features the guzheng - a Chinese stringed instrument dating back 2,500 years - the cello, and a flute choir with two contrabass flutes.
