Spotlight on Flute and Strings with the Colorado Quartet
Members of the Colorado Quartet, a fine string quartet, joined three flutists to present chamber works for flute and strings. Eva Amsler joined them for a nuanced and tasteful performance of Mozart’s delightful Quartet in D; Patricia Spencer performed with the complete quartet a very moving rendition of Amy Beach’s brooding and melancholy Theme and Variations; and Hal Ott joined a violinist and a violist for a tasteful and energetic reading of Maria Newman’s Pennipotenti (Latin for “birds”), where the ensemble and balance of the three instruments was exquisite.
